Abstract

Arthrogryposis is a congenital abnormality affecting new born calves and is observed in Charolais cattle. The defective calves are born either dead or alive and those that are born alive are unable to stand up and remain standing even after being assisted. The abnormality is characterized by the crippling of one or both pairs of limbs at the joints and is often associated with a cleft palate.
