Abstract
The object of animal breeding is the improvement of economically important characters in animals. Selection, while based on phenotype, is really aimed at isolating and maintaining a desirable genotype in breeding lines. THe more we understand genetics structure, expression and evolution, the better position we will be in to transform them.
