In Baden-WUrttemberg data were recorded routinely by Al-stations since 1977. For this study of about 1.2 million inseminations during the years of 1977 and 1980 are used. One half of the data must be discarded because missing identification numbers of the cows. About one half of the remaining records were first inseminations which were combined with the after-insemination records into one record. After some plausibility checks and after discarding all data except those from the Simmental and Black and White cattle about 200 000 records remained for the statistical analysis. The corresponding data from milk recording are also available.
