Possibilities of assessing the meat production abilites of different cattle breeds and genotypes in more depth was started after 1970 in Hungary.  naturally, there have been preliminary experiments conducted with Hereford, Charolais, Angus and some diary breeds respecrtively, but the base of beef production for a couple of decades was the Hungarian Flekvieh.
