Abstract

Data from a long-term crossbreeding p roject using Hereford, Charolais and Brangus breeds under a complete dial lei cross were analyzed. S ta t is t ic a lly sig n ific a n t e ffe c t s <P<0.05> for year, sex and calving were found. Breed ad d itive genetic s u p erio rities of Charolais over Brangus and Hereford were 4.7 kg. and 6.5 kg. for birth wt. ( P <0.05) , 40 gr. and 200 gr. for avg. preweaning d a ily gain ( P<0.05) , and 14.6 kg. and 51.4 kg. fo r adjusted 216 days weaning wt.. General combinig a b ilit y was superior for Charolais x Brangus cross and its reciprocal for birth w t.(P<0.05) and sim ilar performance for Hereford x Charolais and Charolais x Brangus and their reciprocals for avg. preweaning d a ily gain (P<0.01) and adjusted 216 days weaning wt. (P<0.01). S p e c ific combining a b ilit y and maternal efects were superior in crosses with Hereford as a male and Charolais as a female and Charolais as male and Brangus as a fema1e .
