Abstract
Different selection strategies were examined where subjective visual classing data was combined with objective criteria into single or two-stage selection indices. In the two-stage procedures, subjective criteria and/or greasy fleece . were used at the first stage. The conclusions were, firstly, that the a .ltl?n subjective criteria to a single-stage selection system which contains objectively measured variates can improve overall economic response; secondly, gains will only be marginally decreased if subjective criteria are used to reduce the numbers of rams to be tested to 70% in a two-stage selection programme.
