Abstract

Genetic relationships between 305-day milk (MY), fat (FY) and protein yields (PY), lactation length (LL), cow average live weight (ACW), growth rate from 12 to 24 months (HGR) and age at first calving (AFC) were estimated in a population of Brazilian Milking Hybrid females (Holstein * Zebu), using REML methodology with an animal model. Heritability estimates for MY, FY, PY, LL, ACW, HGR and AFC were respectively, 0.28 0.08, 0.300.11, 0.280.09, 0.190.07, 0.180.06, 0.420.10 and 0.480.12. Genetic correlations between MY, FY and PY with ACW and HGR, were all negative, and between MY, ACW and HGR with AFC were of small magnitude. Genetic correlation between MY and LL was 0.930.02.
