Abstract

Polymorphism in insulin like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) gene in yaks was studied by PCR-Hha 1-RFLP and allele A (116 bp, 35 bp and 28 bp) or allele B (70 bp, 46 bp, 35 bp and 28 bp) were observed. Association between IGF-1 genotypes with birth weight and body weight at different ages was investigated. The studies indicated that the polymorphism in IGF-1 is associated with birth weight and heterozygotes are superior to homozygotes. Heterozygous genotypes had higher body weight at 3 month, 6 month of age as well as adult body weight in females.
