Results from a previous microarray study are used to generate simulated data to assess models that remove spatial trends. The models compared are a wavelets threshold model, splines with a spatial autoregressive correlation structure and a mixed model with no spatial term. The wavelets threshold approach is the most successful when the nuisance spatial trends in the images are rough, but there is little difference between the models for images with smoother spatial bias.
